Now that our first quarter projects are done, it’s time for feedback from our classmates and Mr.M. A couple classes ago we were able to watch a few videos and fill out a rubric about how well we think they did. Honest feedback is important because we want to learn from our mistakes so we can make a great 2nd quarter project. Without honest feedback we wouldn’t be able to learn from our mistakes and improve.

Last year we just watched our videos and commented on what they did well and what they needed to work on. This year we have a new kind of system which involves the rubric. There are different things we need to pinpoint like audio, voiceovers, interviews, and many other specific things that can make a video great or not so great. I think that the rubric that we use is better because all the groups get to give us feedback and tell us what we did well and what we need to work on.

While grading our friends in class, we always want to be nice and not hurt their feelings. Sometimes it’s hard to tell people the truth about their video or in general. We would want someone to tell us that there’s something in our teeth right? And that’s exactly how it is in media, if everyone tells me that my video is perfect, I’m not going to work harder or create a better new story in the second quarter in fact I’d make a video that would be even worse than first quarter.

Just as much as we need to critique things, we also need to comment on the good things that a group may have done well. If we only told a group the bad things they did, it would tear them down and make them not feel good about themselves. So it is very important to be honest in all categories.

I look forward to hearing feedback about our first quarter project so that I can improve those mistakes for our second quarter project. So, honesty is very important especially in feedback. “Honesty is the best policy.”

As I prepare to go to high school next year it’s a good time to start thinking about what I want to be when I grow up. I want to have a job in the media industry, I’m not sure what I want to be in specific since there’s hundreds and thousands of different jobs in media. To reach this goal it will take a lot of hard work.

On our trip in Los Angeles, we got to go to Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, and Shake it Up. We got to see all the different kinds of jobs in media and how much work gets put into it. After that trip, I realized that I wanted to work in the media industry. I think that I would want to become a producer or possibly a script writer, because I love writing.

In order to get a great job, you need to go to college. In college I want to major in Mass Communications/ media studies. A great college for that is Columbia University all the way in New York, which is about 5000 miles away! Columbia University is very popular for their media program, it’s even on our lanyards at STN!

Another college that I would want to attend, would be University of San Fransisco which is also famous for their media program. One mom’s friend’s daughter actually graduated from there. And now she has an awesome job working at Prom Girl making commercials and promos for them! So that just proves how many opportunities there are in media business.

In conclusion, when I grow up I want to work in the media industry, possibly as a producer or a writer. And go to Columbia University or University of San Fransisco to major in mass communication/ media studies. It will take dedication, determination, and effort, but it will be worth it all in the end because I love media.

Recently, a new episode of Shake it Up aired on Disney Channel. It was about Rocky and Cece’s sweet sixteen party. Believe it or not but, it was the episode that we saw them film! We watched them film the episode in March and it aired in September! That’s just about 6 months which is a really long time. If you think about it, so much hard work goes into one episode which is only 21 minutes long. There are so many jobs that get put in to make the episode play such as, writers, camera people, sound people, costumes, even people who get your coffee! It takes them a week to film one episode and it was so cool to watch it on TV because we were 20 feet away from them when they were doing some scenes!

Finally! The weight of the world is no longer on my shoulders. Why? Because we turned our 1st quarter project in on time! I think that being on time is very important, not only in media but, at jobs, school, sports, and basically everything. For example, being on time is important for a job assignment, meetings, and school.

First of all being on time is very important for a job assignment. Your boss could assign you to do an important report on the stocks. You may not want to because your “lazy or tired” so you just goof around and pretend like your typing. Your boss is the one who hired you and could easily fire you. If you didn’t do your assignment your put on the line of being fired. If you want to find another job, you could be known as the person who doesn’t do their job and that could make you struggle to find a new job.

Being on time to meetings is another reason of why being on time is important. It could be some really boring meeting that very few people want to go to but, you have to go for important information. If you show up to the meeting late, they could have gone over a bunch of information that they’d have to share with you again and waste their time. Or they could leave you in the dust and not fill you in on anything.

Lastly, being on time is important for a school project. Our first quarter projects are a great example of a deadline you don’t want to be late on. Many of us figured out the hard way that procrastinating will not help with anything. If we turn in our project in a day late, our grade goes down, and it keeps going lower and lower for every day it’s late. And if you want a good grade, meeting your deadline is important!

In conclusion, being on time is very important in our everyday lives, from the classroom to the workroom. Media teaches us this life skill to meet our deadlines. Being on time is important for Job assignments, meetings, school, and much more.

Imagine life without music. Music is used in basically every TV show or movie that you watch. Even commercials! You may not realize how much music can make a difference in shows or movies. It turns one scene from good to GREAT.

I chose to do an episode from Hannah Montana, it’s the very last show of their four seasons. Miley and Lilly are both going to college but, Miley gets a major offer to be in a movie in Paris. They then split up and go their different ways to Paris and Stanford after a big fight. And it’s pretty emotional because they’re both best friends far apart.

During the last scene, when they’re both settling into they’re new “homes”, the song “Wherever I Go” plays. It’s the perfect song to match this scene because they’re with each other wherever they go. Some of the lyrics are “So I’m moving on, letting go, holding on to tomorrow I’ve always got the memories while I’m finding out who I’m gonna be, We might be apart but I hope you always know You’ll be with me wherever I go, Wherever I go.”

Hannah Montana was a favorite show to all girls back then. And when the show was ending it’s pretty sad because we grew up looking up to her. The last scene was already emotional but, when the song “Wherever I Go” was added it made it even more emotional and maybe make you a little teary eyed.

In conclusion, music makes a huge different to shows and movies. It emphasizes certain things, a little zazz to it, and makes it much more interesting. Next time your watching a show notice how music (with lyrics or without) helps a scene flow or makes it great.

Our project deadline is just around the corner and everyone is doing their best to finish our projects on time! Taylynn and I are doing a news story about the drownings on Kauai. We had a pretty good script but we were lacking a little more information to one of our points. So Mr.M told us that it would be a good idea to interview Dr. Monty Downs. It was our choice if we wanted to or not but, if Hiki No wanted our story then we would need to interview him. So it was either now or later, so we went to the ER and we got to interview him just in the nick of time when he was leaving work. Taylynn and I just need to add some more broll and voiceovers/standup. And of course, double check and triple check it to see if we can make it any better. With hardwork, we should be able to meet our deadline on Wednesday!

Apple is becoming bigger and better by the second! With the new iPhones coming out there is also iOS 7! iOS 7 is a huge change from the last update. Usually updates aren’t that big of a deal because there’s only bug fixes or something minor. But, this time apple went all out and created a totally different display with awesome features. iOS 7 is compatible with all iPhones (4 and up) iPod 5, and iPads. The most noticeable change in iOS 7 is the app icons, they have different icons and in my opinion they’re much more bright and cheerful.

iOS 7 also has new features like control center to turn on your flashlight or change your brightness. There’s also a great feature on the camera to change your photo to square for Instagram. Photos are divided into moments, years, or collections to group your pictures in a neat clever way.

If you think that these features are a lot, there are even more! I have iOS 7 now on my iPad and I think it’s really cool but, it’s going to take me a little while to get used to it.

Introducing the new iPhone 5c! If you thought iPhone 5 was at the top, think again because the iPhone 5c is new, improved, and better than ever! The “c” in iPhone 5c stands for color and that is the big deal about the new phone. There are different colors to make everything more bold and it even comes with a case to enhance your colorful iPhone! The back of the phone is even made out of plastic so you don’t have to worry about shattering the back of it. It also has better battery for up to 10 hours of use which is just as much as an iPad! There other features such as an HD camera in the front (for all of your high quality selfie needs…just kidding). The new iSight camera has 8mp so you can become a great photographer with your phone. There’s even iOS 7 which is a HUGE difference from iOS 6 both it’s looks and functions. The iPhone 5c is going to come out on September 20th so be prepared for a more colorful high tech world in smart phones!

Difficulties?Posted in Topic of the Week. on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 by leanna808
SEP14
OH MY GOSH! This quarter is almost winding down to an end. Yet, it seems like its the first week of school. So have we had any difficulties? I would say that we have done well this quarter and that we haven’t had any major problems. We haven’t done our radios yet, but we have done the announcements, we filmed, transcribed, and started writing. The most difficult things would be using photoshop for our advisory game, writing our script and creating our 5 step outline,

Taylynn and I are doing an advisory game which will play in January, so it’s not a school related game. Our advisory game is name that app! To make things more fancy, we tried to use PS photoshop on the computer. We tried to erase the background out around the app so that it was just the icon. I’m not an expert at using photoshop so we were both kind of winging it. But, we gave up so we will crop as much of the background out as we can.

Our scripts are due on Monday, and everyone is rushing to meet this deadline! I think with this topic of Kauai drownings is very hard to create a script. Just because everyone we interviewed had very similar answers to very different questions. Part of writing a script is creating a 5 step outline, it’s the 5 points you are going to make in your story. For me, writing is one of my favorite parts about making a news story, even though its the most challenging part. So I hope that we will be able to come up with a good script, after all of our revisions of course!

First quarter is always the hardest quarter because school has just begun, and everything’s just being thrown at you all at once which can be pretty hectic at times. I believe that this quarter is the shortest quarter of the year which means that we have less time to take our time on perfecting things!

In conclusion, we haven’t had any major difficulties this quarter, so I hope we end the quarter that way too! The only problems we’ve had is using PS photoshop and make our 5 step outline. Other than that, we’re doing pretty good!

So we may have difficult times in media but, there’s got to be some things that were great at in media! All of us have our strengths and weaknesses in media because nobody’s perfect! This year, I would say that I have mastered the morning announcements, writing scripts, and meeting deadlines.

It’s a new school year, so we have brand new teams to work on the morning announcements. We have four teams that switch out every week so everyone gets a chance to work a different job. I’m in team three and we worked two weeks ago. It was the first time we worked in the morning announcements so it was a little rough on Monday, not to mention a random picture of Seattle. But, we learned from that and we picked it up on Tuesday with a great broadcast with no pictures of Seattle. I would say that team 3 mastered working together.

I also mastered writing scripts. For our news stories, we have to create a script and its probably the hardest part about making a news story. When writing a script, it takes a lot of revisions to finally get it approved. When we were writing our script I was a little nervous about it. I just had a feeling that I’d have to change the whole script around. Believe it or not, we didn’t have to make major changes! There’s just one point in our 5 step outline that we need to change and a small revision to one of the voiceovers!

Lastly, I mastered meeting deadlines so far. This Monday, we had to turn in our scripts, and we did! Sometimes meeting a deadline can be hard especially when the quarter is short. Our script deadline was our biggest deadline so far, but we also met the other small ones like finish filming and transcribing. Our final projects are due soon so we will work extremely hard to meet our next deadline.

In conclusion, there are some things that I have mastered but, I haven’t mastered everything! And that’s why we work as a class, some people are better in certain things than others so, we al, work together to help each other. This year I have mastered the morning announcements, writing scripts, and meeting deadlines. Hopefully, I’ll be able to master more skills throughout this year!
